New CD project idea; and I need YOUR help giving it a name!

Dear friends:
It's nearing 11:30p.m. on Monday night, July 26th, 2010. I have to say I'm very excited right now because I've come up with another idea for fun music to create.   (Do I ever think of anything else, you might ask??? Probably not...).

I have many original songs that most of you have never heard.   I'm SO not comfortable with my vocal abilities that I usually have other people record the songs before I release them.   So, I'm going to take these songs which have catchy, fun beats and chord progressions and turn them into interesting and fun instrumental versions and release them!

Song titles will include:
AIN'T DOIN' NOTHIN' 'TIL LOVE
OUT OF YOUR MIND
THE SUMMER OF YOUR LOVE
SNAKE DANCIN'
BROKEN ROMANCE
ACTIVATE (actually available now FREE if you join my Fan List)
SATURDAY NIGHT BLUES
DANCE WITH ME
and probably some new creations without words, once again.

The title of the entire CD could be interesting to come up with.   What do Y'ALL think it should be???

Here's a couple ideas I had:   NO VOCALS ALOUD   or    SHUT UP AND PLAY!

Bryan M. Lewis secured to play lead role in my new 2010 Christmas show !

Hello, everyone!
Each holiday season, I'm fortunate to have the responsibility of providing an entertaining program for my church.   This year's show is called - WMCC: CHRISTMAS RADIO.    It will be a fun, interactive "live" radio broadcast from the inside of a far-away fantasy Christmas land radio station; complete with a request line, live acts and a studio audience who helps pick the best Christmas act from that show.

A young intern comes on board just before the big Christmas Eve broadcast and learns the zany ways of the broadcast life.   Bryan M. Lewis- has agreed to play the part of the the Intern.    If you've never heard Bryan sing- you'll want to definitely come check out this 19-year old, up and rising star's voice.     He's amazing and will bring the house down on December 4th, 2010.   Please put that date on your calendars!   There will be an afternoon and evening show.     More info coming later.

It will be a blast!   Wanted to share the good news that Bryan is on board, for sure!

WOW!!!
I just heard that Elton John was the surprise guest performer at Radio Talk Show Host- Rush Limbaugh's- wedding reception on June 5th, 2010! Sir Elton John performed his one man show (piano and synthesizer only) for 70 minutes in front of 400 of Rush and his new bride- Catherine's- friends and guests. The crowd welcomed Elton with standing ovations and it was a magical moment, filled with warmth and genuine loving interaction. Wouldn't it be wonderful if political views could be dropped more often to celebrate life's moments along the way? There IS hope for the world yet. I'm convinced of it! Thought y'all would find this interesting!

Bless This Food I Am About To Eat!

Hello, Y'all!
I had some thoughts tonight about what we ask for in life.   Particularly, when participating in prayers for our food.    As most of you know, I've struggled with weight issues for most of my life.   I've only one or two times been what I would consider "normal" weight for my height.
Until recently, I had almost given up trying to lose the excess pounds again.

But a great friend of mine- Lori Alsterberg- turned me onto an amazing Doctor here in Metro-Atlanta- Dr. Harry Delcher.    He is an Endochronologist and has taken me under his wing.    The problem- as it turns out (and I have sort of known this for years)- is that I'm allergic to wheat, oats, soy and cow milk.    So, the Doc has forbidden me (oh, how biblical- don't you think?) to partake of any of these foods in my diet.   (Actually- he strongly encouraged me to do this).

He also gave me a subscription for a drug called Byetta.   This keeps food in my stomach longer so I feel full and don't have that horrid urge to eat constantly as I did before.    The result- today ends my 9th week on the program and I have lost 32 1bs!!!   Wonderful, amazing and unreal!!!

But let me share two other things I have used in conjunction with this:
1) I do not eat after 6p.m. at night; and sometimes I don't eat after 4:30p.m.!   It's so vital to my weight loss.
and
2) Probably the most important thing I've added is the new way in which I ask for a blessing on my food.    I used to cringe when my grandfather would pray these words- "and bless this food to the good of our bodies" before we ate a dinner at his home.    But, I guess it never really clicked until I understood the power of prayer.   The Good Book says that whatever we ask for, believing, we will have it!   So, if that's the case.... why would I not ask specifically for food to be used for my body's greatest good???

So, now, for the past nine weeks, I've faithfully added something like this in my prayer before each meal:

Dear Lord,
Thank you for this meal I'm about to enjoy.   Please bless this food to the good of my body.   And please help my body normalize to the way you intended me to be when you created me.   I give thanks that it is absolutely happening now.
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You- God.   In Jesus' Name- Amen.

I encourage each of you to use a prayer similar to this and start to believe its power will bring about healing in your body no matter what is ailing you.    Our words have such power and influence.   We must speak words that enliven and heal us along life's journey.    You can bet I'll be forever changed by the new blessing that I give over meals from now on.   I wish success for you - much the same!

Welcome to the big-time!!!

Well, friends!
I have finally taken the plunge and am learing about e-mail blasts, surveys and online newsletter templates and all kinds of "geek" type stuff!   Aren't you happy for me???

You may have noticed an email from me that looked like a flyer.   That actually was done with one of my new programs.   It's the infant learning to walk, so, please forgive if you see some little odd things in make-up of the e-mail.   But, I'm SO excited to be getting back in touch with everyone once again.   I sent emails to all my current and former brides and grooms tonight and my church Praise Team.   There are many more of you who will receive the email shortly.

Much as I expected- there are many errors in the email addresses, so, I'll be making lots of phone calls and catching up personally with many of you over the next few weeks.

"....as long as the creek don't rise".......

Do you remember just a couple years ago when we were praying for rain on a daily basis? The plants, shrubs and trees in our Atlanta yards had "S.O.S." signs hanging from their leaves and branches.    We were saving our washing machine water to give them something to try and hang on as the sun beat down in blazing attack.   Do you remember that?

Well, I surely have changed my tune.   This year we've had SO much rain already and it doesn't come without a cost to me personally.   My studio (which many of you have visited or recorded projects here) is in the basement of my home.   Great venue, wonderful creative work place and where I meet with clients to plan their events.    All is great.... until it rains.    Now, if it's just a short, healthy rain... no problem.   But when there's a torrential downpour.... I get out the canoe and just wait.

Water has come in the far wall of my studio now about 6 times since I've lived here.    What to do about it is challenging since my studio walls are walls built over cement block walls.   So you can't even reach the true corners of the studio that might need to be sealed to keep this from happening again.    It's very discouraging and nerve-wracking each time it rains.    Last night was one of those nights.    But, thank heavens, it did not accumulate enough inches to seep in again.

My question(s) for y'all is this: Are you, or have you in the past, experienced this same problem?   And what exactly did you do to correct it?   I'm open to suggestions. And if any of my clients are in the "biz" of water-proofing, sealing, (or whatever this would be called), please let me know right away.   I'll put a plug for you on my blog.

Now I need to go make sure everything is still dry.   I have a recording session that starts in under an hour.   Hope everyone has a great day...."as long as the creek don't rise"!

Doug Quick Tip- June 1st, 2010: Traveling on Grey Hound- "can't a guy just get some sleep"?????

OK- Kids!
Here's my first quick tip (or informational tid-bit) for today: If you're going on a long trip, and Grey Hound tells you it will take 24 hours, be prepared to be awakened at about 3a.m. in the morning so they can clean the bus.!!! That's what happened to me- 25 years ago- as I migrated down from Jackson, MI to Atlanta. They couldn't clean the bus at 10 or 11p.m.??? No, they had to get us all up at 3:00a.m. to clean the bus.

Hello everybody!!!
You read correctly!!! I've been in Atlanta for 25 years now and have been playing piano and DJing for clients during all those years!   It's amazing to me to think that I arrived in Atlanta, GA- by Grey Hound Bus on June 1st, 1985 with only $70.00 in my pocket and one great friend in town!   I was so youthful, naiive and full of optimism.   Looking back, let me tell you- I would NEVER do it that way again!      But it was fun the first time.   (And it makes a great start to a wonderful story.   I'll be sharing stories in the blog from years past as time goes on. Your event or party could be featured!).

Introducing: 25 - 25 - 25 Promotion

"LOST" - goodbye to a very good show!

OK- I admit it, I was holding up pretty good until the final minute or two of the show.   Animals just add such a bit of emotion that I guess just didn't come across during the LOST series finale tonight.    For those who have not watched yet- I won't do any spoiling here- but I will examine how we get SO caught up in our shows like this!

I'm now adding LOST to the long (and growing) list of shows that have captivated me for years and are now relegated to DVD status.   Others in this category:   FRIENDS, WILL & GRACE, SIX FEET UNDER and of course WONDER WOMAN (really dating myself with that one- but I miss it!).    There are others, but these really left big holes in my TV watching schedule and I have to continuously search for new shows to get hooked on that will serve that purpose.    Why do we get so hooked??? Are we really so bored with our lives that we look to these programs to fill some vacancy in ourselves?   Or is it just plain good fun to watch, laugh and become emotionally involved with the characters?    I know I was rooting for Jen & Sun to reunite!   Weren't you???

Hats off to LOST for creating a unique and crazy story line that kept me guessing until the final minutes of the show where they were taking us.   It was truly rewarding to find that my suspicions were confirmed and that I could be a LOST writer.

Until the next great show comes on.... I'm going to be "lost" without LOST!   Thanks for 6 great years!    It was amazing!
