First song of the decade: MORE THAN WE IMAGINE

Hello, everybody!
Very excited to announce and publish my first song of the new decade:  MORE THAN WE IMAGINE.    It will be used for closing church services, or just a small thought for moments of inspiration.    It was inspired by the bible verse below.    Enjoy.

"To God whose power now at work in us can do immeasurably more than we ask or imagine"

 Ephesians 3: 20

MORE THAN WE IMAGINE
(Words & music by Doug Gazlay)

Open up your mind and just imagine

Let the dream God has for you begin

It all starts with you

with prayer it can come true

Add faith with works and feel the power within

Reach beyond the valleys and the mountains

Cast the nets out on the rolling sea

As the vision grows

expecting as we sow

Trusting in the power of God

We can do

More than we imagine

So, as the dreams unfold,

right now, both young and old

Trusting in the power of God

We can do more, more than we imagine

A dream for me and you (much more)

More than we Imagine
Our dreams are coming true (much more)
More than we Imagine
With God, we can do (much more)

More than we imagine

Happy New Year! 2010- Celebrating a re-awakening of confidence and the Spirit of America!

Happy New Year, everyone!
It was quite a year in 2009.   Many people struggled in many areas of life.    Uncertainty reigned as we all breathlessly held on during the ups and downs.   Terrorism is not dead, as a flight over Detroit showed us on Christmas day, and dangers lurk around every corner.   But, in spite of all this, we are Americans!   We have an inherent ability to rise above the problems because we believe and celebrate freedom.    I believe that we are re-awakening to what our founders knew when they forged this great country so many years ago.    Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness (not the guarantee of happiness) is what we are all granted naturally by our Creator.

I don't believe there has been another country in the history of all humanity that has ever enjoyed the liberties that we have taken for granted for too long.   This year, we will band together once again, feeling that surge of patriotism that binds us together as a nation, and meet whatever we face with confidence.   If we keep our trust in God first, the Creator of the Universe will be with each person in this country, and around the world, who recognize the true goodness of our country.    Though not perfect, we will once again hold our candle high as a bright light in a very dark sea of human misery.    We will spread hope to all who are wise enough to recognize it and we will guard our way of life against what ever forces may try and derail, abolish or tear it down.   For, my friends, we are Americans.   God bless America and may God bless each of you and grant you lavish success, refreshing health, sustaining wealth and endless courage and  peace of mind during the year 2010!   It's going to be a great year!    I'm planning on it!

Happy New Year and all the best!- Doug Gazlay

Good bye, Les Paul.

Today we lost one of the most innovative forces in modern music.   It was announced that legendary guitarist and recording guru Les Paul died from complications with pnemonia.   I knew about his creativity with the guitar.   But what amazed me to find out is that he was instrumental in developing the multi-track recording method.    This is what allows one person to play many different instruments or sing many different parts at different times on the same song.    In short, Les Paul developed the system that allows me to sit in my studio at my home and record tracks for y'all to purchase and enjoy!    Wow!

The best example of an early group who used his new (at the time) technique was the Carpenters.   Their sound was famous for their lush overdubs of Karen and RIchard's vocals.    It made them unique and they are still my favorite Christmas CD to listen to when Christmas rolls around each year.    Les Paul helped them with that technique.   Amazing!

What's also amazing is that I stopped by Guitar Center yesterday and looked at a Gibson Les Paul guitar for the first time in my life.   And then, the next day.... the creator of that guitar passes away!   Oh, and my friend Ricky, was here and we were eating at Vittles when this happened!   (Last time we ate at Vittles- we lost Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson).    We sheepishly looked at each other today and asked who will it be today????   The answer... Les Paul.    Rest in peace, Mr. Paul.   You gave the world a great gift which will be passed on through the generations.    I may even go purchase that guitar soon.   I just might.

SMILE!!!!!!!!!!!

It' s been a fun week!  Whew!   Tooth pain on my bottom left molar began last week.   It was faint at first, but quickly developed into that familiar and unwanted all-consuming ache.   I went to my remedies that I knew how to use:

1) regular brushing, flossing
2)
Peroxyl (by Colgate) which is the most healing rinse and more gentle than other brands
3) Started taking
Tylenol extra strength
and 4) bought some Ambesol tooth cream

The above helped me get through a tooth problem a couple years ago.   It was great!   Never went to the dentist, it just went away.   NOT this time.    The pain surged and I was nearly in tears when I decided to actually follow the Pharmacist's advice and purchase ADVIL.   Two tablet of that and it slowly phased out most of the pain.

I also purchased ORAJEL SEVERE TOOTH TREATMENT gel.   WOW!   What a difference.   It tastes much better than Ambesol and actually soothed the irritation and deadened the pain.    This combination, combined with steps 1 and 2 above, actually brought me relief so I could get through the weekend with flying colors.

Then I took the hardest step for anyone who does not have Dental insurance to do, I decided find a dentist and make an appointment.   I put out the call to my local Atlanta area friends for recommendations for who they like and use as their dentist.   A half dozen people sent out great suggestions.   I ended up calling Dr.  Kenneth A. Gilbert, D.D.S. of Clairmont Dental Care.   My friend, Travis, referred me to the good Doctor.   He has been going to this Dentist office for over 10 years and said they were really great.

I made the appointment for Tuesday (08-12-09) and actually showed up!!!!   I went into the office and was greated by Ashley, who made me feel at ease right away.   Then Patty cleaned my teeth.   And I just love it when people have conversations with you while they are cleaning your teeth.   "So, how's the wife and kids"?  (Me  "Gargle, cough, sputter, mumble....."  "That's great"!   We've all been there..    "Ah-huh,  yah.. (sounding all gargled like Larry Flint).    Patty found that my gums were in surprisingly great shape.    Cleaning was done.    (Wow.   There are separations between my lower front teeth!  ).

Then Kim came in to take the X-rays.   SO cool that they now instantly appear on the computer.   (I wish I would have had one of those machines when I was a kid).   The hardest part about this whole visit was the device they put in my mouth for the x-ray was crazy hard to keep in place.   It actually hurt to bite down on it.    But it was done soon enough.

Then Dr. Gilbert entered the room.   He had already been to Face Book and learned a bit about "moi" from the posts.   So, we hit it off really great.   Until he looked at my charts.   The good news:   My gums- great shape.   There we no new cavities.   And then the bad news:   I need 3 root canals and 4 crowns!   "Is that all"?  I quipped!

You might ask:  "Doug, why do you need all these?".   Well, I was doing pretty well considering I had not been to the dentist since I had my wisdom teeth (all four at once) pulled in 1996!   Yes, it has been since the 20th century that I last saw a dentist.   So, all in all- I was pleased that I didn't have any more wrong, like my tongue falling out, or something really serious.

Now I have my achilles-molars.   These were the same molars that had fillings put in all those years ago.   Just have to get them worked on and I'm in pretty good shape orally.    So, I shall sell all that I have available to pay for the procedures.   Oh, and yes, at this point I have no dental insurance.    Isn't that fun???

My reason for telling you this story????   GET TO A DENTIST .... NOW!   Don't go over a decade without a cleaning, etc..   It's just not worth it.   As for those who have had root canals...... please don't tell me about them.   I just want to get all three done at once and get them over with.   But that takes $$$$.

Anyone need a grand piano?   Or a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee?    Or need me to play for your wedding or reception, or while your dog gets a bath?   I'm open to any possibility available to raise cash!     Call me:   770-435-4911

Well, that's my story, and I'm stuck with it!    Please, Please, Please.... go to your dentist and get yourself taken care of so you don't have this same outcome as me.    And everyone, all together now....------------------''SMILE"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bryan Lewis is Amazing! Sings "THERE'S ONLY ONE WOMAN" by Doug Gazlay

Bryan Lewis, a great singer friend of mine, recorded one of my originals today in my D-Grooves Recording Studio.   It's from the 80s, with some lyric and melody improvements made in 2009.   I'm so thrilled to hear it performed by a truly talented singer, such as Bryan.   It will be available for download soon, along with three or four other songs that Bryan and I are collaborating on these days.   Please let us know how you like the song!   I hope you enjoy!  All the best!- Doug

There’s Only One Woman

(Words and music by Doug Gazlay)
(Copyright 1985, 2009 Doug Gazlay)

At times I wonder if I’ll ever find another

Who can make me feel the way you made me feel

Been running ‘round here like a ship without a sail

Driftin’ near the rocks to find love that’s real

When you were here, I had no fear

There was life in my eyes, but now that you’re gone I realize

There’s only one woman who can brighten up my day

There’s only one lady who can take this pain away

If you were with me, I’m sure you’d see

a welcome change inside

I’ve played a fool, broken ev’ry rule

I let you down, but now I’ve found

There’s only one woman who can melt this frozen heart

There’s only one lady who can bring a fresh new start

Maybe you and I could give it one more try

‘cause for me, there’s only one woman

Love was just a game, and I’ve played all my aces

And against the odds-  lost time and time again.

A heart that’s slow to tame, I’ve seen a lot of faces

But I’ve hit the wall, and can’t tell where I’ve been

When you were here, it seemed so clear

There was peace in my heart, but now that you’re gone I’m torn apart

There’s only one woman who can brighten up my day

There’s only one lady who can take this pain away

If you were with me, I’m sure you’d see

A welcome change inside

I played a fool, broken ev’ry rule

I let you down, but now I’ve found

There’s only one woman who can melt this frozen heart

There’s only one lady who can bring a fresh new start

Maybe you and I could give it one more try

‘cause for me, there’s only one woman

There’s only one girl I should have stayed with from the start

Maybe you and I could give it one more try

‘cause for me, there’s only one woman

There’s only one woman

New song, written with the guitar!!!!

Hi, Y'all!
Here's the brand new song written on July 28th, 2009.   It's the first time I used the guitar (which I've been playing seriously for two months) to write a song!   Gave it a jazzier, bluesier feel.    The song explores the subject of longing for lost youth.   Hope you enjoy!-  Doug

I WANT TO DANCE LIKE HIM

(By Doug Gazlay)  07-28-09

I LOOK AT HIM

AND I SEE WONDER

SOMEHOW I KNOW HIM

HIS FAMILIAR THUNDER

I NEED TO FOLLOW

FEEL HIS POWER

I WANT TO DANCE LIKE HIM

OH

I SEE HIS HUNGER

WANT TO GIVE HIM SOMETHIN’

I HEAR HIS CRY

WANT TO GIVE HIM COMFORT

AND SUCH HUMOR

HE MAKES ME LAUGH FOREVER

I WANT TO DANCE LIKE HIM

AND BE FREE

HE MOVES IN CIRCLES

FOR EV’RYONE TO SEE

AND IN THAT MOMENT

NO REGRETS

AND IF HE DANCED FOREVER

I JUST DON’T THINK

ANYONE WOULD EVER, REALLY CARE

LOCKED IN THE MOMENT

MUSIC POUNDING FAST

COUNTLESS YESTERDAYS

FLOODING FROM MY PAST

BEFORE I COULD TURN AWAY

HE REACHED HIS HAND TO ME

HE SAID, YES, I COULD DANCE LIKE HIM

BECAUSE HE WAS ME

OH, YES, HE WAS ME

HE WAS THE MAN THAT

I USED TO BE

AND IF I WOULD JUST DANCE

THEN ONCE AGAIN I’D SEE

THAT EVERYTHING HE IS

IS STILL IN ME, OH

JUST DANCE

I WANNA’ DANCE LIKE HIM

JUST DANCE

YES, I WANT TO DANCE LIKE HIM

WOAH, I WANNA’ DANCE

I MOVE IN CIRCLES

FOR EV’RYONE TO SEE

AND IN THAT MOMENT, NO REGRETS

AND IF I DANCE FOREVER

I JUST DON’T THINK

ANYONE WOULD EVER, REALLY CARE

JUST DANCE

I WANNA’ DANCE LIKE HIM

JUST DANCE

I WANT TO DANCE LIKE HIM

JUST DANCE

JUST DANCE

I WANT TO DANCE LIKE HIM

OH, YES

JUST DANCE

I WANT TO DANCE LIKE HIM

JUST DANCE

I WANT TO DANCE

JUST DANCE

I WANNA’ DANCE LIKE HIM

ONCE AGAIN DANCE LIKE HIM

Warning! If you're selling on E-Bay and accepting PayPal payments... It'll be a LONG_______________________________________time before you see your money!!!

OK...
(You know it's something NOT good if I start out with "OK"...)"

I decided the keyboard I was using for church was not working out as I'd hoped.   I went online, shopped for the solution, found it... another sound module.    Problem... the new sound module is rather expensive.   Solution... sell a couple pieces of equipment on E-bay to raise fast cash!   Seems simple, right?   I've done it 100 times before.... well, not like it happened this time.   (And this is where the warning comes in for everyone expecting to pay bills or have use of funds for items sold on E-bay via PayPal).

I discovered, after placing the items for sale, that when the purchaser uses PayPal to pay for the items, Ebay and PayPal have this "cute" little new policy where you have to have at least one or more of three things happen before they will release the funds to the seller.

1) Tracking number has to be presented proving that the item has shipped
2) Buyer has to receive the item and be reported via the tracking
and
3) Buyer needs to leave positive feedback on the item purchased; (if you get a buyer who doesn't care or forgets... you never get your money until the 21st day after the payment was made!!! THREE WEEKS of waiting for your money which should have been available to you immediately upon the transaction being completed!   HMMMM---- wonder who gets the INTEREST on the money during that time??? Is is me??? ... no,   the buyer???  no.... I WONDER WHO??????   Their initials start with "P" and end with "ayPal", is my guess!   Infuriating!).

Now, (and I insert a huge, fake smile here), why in daylights would a seller in their right mind send a product out (especially a $3,000.00 keyboard like I just sold) without having the cash in his/her hot little hands?????   I ask you this with a degree of anger and steam snorting out of my nostrils.    Where else, unless you're selling the item via a payment plan, are you forced to release your precious item you sell before you have access to the money someone paid for it...???   Only with the stupid E-bay and PayPal union.    In the most "spiritual tone" I can muster- I ask:  Well, who the hell died and made them the "safety in purchasing" gurus???

Since I sold both items, only one has been cleared for use in my account.   A $1,560.00 payment is being held anywhere from 1 to three weeks!!!!!!!!!! before I can have my money.   Now I ask you.... is that right?????????????????????????

I just want anyone who is considering using E-bay to be well aware that they have lost their minds as to what makes sense for monies to be paid to the seller in their business.    I cannot tell you how mad I am at PayPal.... oh, who did manage to take out THEIR fees immediately upon completion of payment from the buyer!   HOW CONVENIENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have had people try to get me to dump PayPal for years, and now I am ready.    A recording studio client of mine- Phil Beniamino of MERCHANT LYNX SERVICES   www.merchantlynx.com - gave me his card last December, and said when I'm ready to ditch PayPal, let him know.    I have already put in a call to his office.   Next week, I will put in motion getting rid of the ridiculous partnership of Ebay and PayPal.    IT SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just wanted you to know.  Happy 4th of July.   The fireworks have already gone off at my house....  launched from my steaming hot head!!!

Goodbye Farrah and He's Out Of My Life.....

What a day!  I had a friend come over and help me with some Keyboard/Computer tech today.   When we sat down for lunch (at Vittles Restaurant, in Smyrna- of course) we looked at the TV and wondered what huge news would break today.   You see, something big ALWAYS happens whenever Ricky and I get together.   And today was no disappointment.... if you can say that.

While lunch was being served, the news of Farrah Fawcett's death came on FOX NEWS.   We watched for seven or eight minutes as they went over the highlights of this beautiful woman's life.   It ended and we looked at each other and I said... "Wow!  Was that really about 8 minutes worth of coverage?   I'll bet we'll hear about this all night!"

BUT THEN.............
at about 6:15p.m. my friend- Tim- called from across the country (in Texas) and had a hollow sound in his voice as he relayed that MIchael Jackson had died!   OH, MY GOSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   I was freaked out, just like the rest of the nation and world at the news!   What the heck happened????   I thought I heard he was going into the hospital and seemed o.k. in preparation for his upcoming World Tour!   It just goes to show you, you never know when your time is up.

So, let me offer my sadness as a tribute to this controversial at times, but great musician.   He inspired my youth and kept me dancing in my heart as I DJ with his music over the years.   He will truly be missed.   I was really hoping Quincy Jones would get ahold of Michael once more and produce another really great album.    But that's not going to happen.    I have to mix a Michael Jackson CD now to play for a few days in his honor.

This has really upset me, as I'm sure it has many of you.   We have lost a bright star and I pray that God will bless Michael's soul as He welcomes the "gloved one" in the after life.    Michael brought a lot of joy to millions of people.   And as one who sat in the audience at his 1984 VICTORY tour, I shall never forget that day, nor the great gifts that Michael Jackson brought to the world.   I shall also never forget June 25th, 2009... as the day America lost one of her brightest talents.   Good bye, Michael.   You served us well.   Rest in peace.   I'm so sad "he's out of my life"....... And goodbye to Ms. Fawcett, too.   Another great American citizen and icon.    I have to stop watching TV with Ricky!  :-0
